Editorial Review Policy
How we research, compare, and score UK sportsbook operators.
Our purpose
BritBetTop is an independent comparison platform. Our editorial goal is to give UK adults useful, accurate, and balanced information about selected UK-facing sports betting operators — so they can make better-informed decisions.
We are not advocates for gambling. We do not encourage anyone to bet. We provide comparison information for those who have already decided they want to use a UK-licensed sportsbook and want to compare their options.
How operators are selected
Operators must hold a current UK Gambling Commission licence to be considered for inclusion. We select a range of sportsbooks across different types and sizes — from large established brands to newer, more specialist sites — to provide a useful comparison. Inclusion is not sold and operators cannot pay to appear on this site.
We may choose to remove an operator from our comparisons if their licence status changes, if significant consumer issues arise, or if we are unable to verify basic information about their product.
What we assess
We assess each operator against the following criteria. Each area contributes to the overall editorial score.
UK licensing
Core requirementWe only include operators that hold a current, active UK Gambling Commission operating licence. This is a non-negotiable minimum. We check licence status on the UKGC register before including any operator.
Sport coverage and markets
Significant factorWe assess the breadth of sports covered, the depth of markets within each sport, and how strong the operator is in core UK areas such as football and horse racing. Operators with deeper, better-organised markets score higher.
Bet slip and pricing display
Significant factorWe look at how the bet slip behaves — handling of accumulators, stake adjustment, error messages, and clarity around odds changes between selection and confirmation. A confusing bet slip is a meaningful drawback.
In-play and live betting
Significant factorWe check the depth of in-play markets, the stability of the live interface, and the availability of features such as Cash Out and Bet Builder. We note whether streaming is offered and any conditions on it.
Mobile experience
Considered factorWe assess how the site performs on mobile browsers and, where available, dedicated apps. Responsiveness, load speed, and bet placement quality on mobile are all considered.
Payment options
Considered factorWe note the payment methods available for deposits and withdrawals, typical processing times where published, and whether debit card and standard UK payment methods are supported.
Responsible gambling tools
Significant factorWe look at whether limit-setting tools, self-exclusion options, reality checks, and links to help organisations are visible and easy to access. Operators that make these features prominent score higher.
How scores are calculated
Scores are expressed on a scale of 1 to 10. They are calculated by assessing each operator across all criteria listed above. No single factor determines the score outright. An operator can perform well on sport coverage but score lower overall if the bet slip is confusing or responsible gambling tools are hard to find.
Not all operators will score the same, and we do not aim for artificial uniformity. Scores are our genuine editorial view.
How reviews are written
Review summaries and editorial notes are written by the BritBetTop team based on direct assessment of each operator's website and product. We do not use customer testimonials, unverified user reviews, or data provided by the operators themselves as the basis for scores.
Reviews are written to be useful and balanced. We note both strengths and limitations where relevant. We do not guarantee outcomes, winnings, or market availability.
Review currency
Reviews reflect conditions at the time they were written. Sportsbook products change regularly. We aim to update reviews when significant changes occur, but we cannot guarantee that all information is current. Always check the operator's own site before registering.
Independence statement
